I was first introduced to
Chiropractic care when I began working with Dr. Carrell in 1993 as a full time
massage therapist. After a month of working, I developed Bell's Palsy. It
paralyzed the right side of my face and caused severe headache pain that was
incapacitating. My G.P. wanted to prescribe steroids for a month or more and
told me that I would probably have residual paralysis for the rest of my life.
I decided to wait on the
steroids and hear what Dr. Carrell had to say. After looking at my x-rays, she
explained to me that the vertebrae in my neck had slipped forward and begun
pinching the facial nerves resulting in the paralysis and headache.
Her plan of treatment was to
give me a natural anti-inflammatory, daily adjustments and ultra-sound, lots of
time icing my neck (her favorite thing!), and a cervical collar to wear. The
headache was much improved after the first day of treatment and by the end of
one week the paralysis was completely gone. This experience taught me
firsthand the distress nerve impingement can cause in the body and the
importance of receiving regular adjustments. My job can be physically demanding
and I lead an active lifestyle.
I believe that regular
Chiropractic care, along with massages and exercise, has contributed to the
continued longevity I enjoy in my career. It will be something I include in my
personal network of health support for the rest of my life.
